profile Z
The Z profile is a long section with a cross-section in the shape of the English letter Z, which is included in the category of open profiles. This type of profile is installed in the roof frame and is placed parallel to the roof of the building, and its task is to support the deck or roof sheet. The metal profiles themselves are supported by beams or walls. Profile z is also known as perlin z or perlin z.
Z profile application
The most important application of profile Z is to increase the strength of the roof of various structures. These profiles can be considered as secondary steel frame members that are used both in the roof and in supporting the walls, especially in large-scale projects. In addition, z-profile types are also used to reduce the crossing distances of beams in order to prevent the roof from sagging, which is called the roof bellying, by bearing the additional loads of the roof deck.
Among other uses and applications of the z profile, the following can be mentioned:
Use in the construction of rails and foundations
Secondary metal frame construction
Automotive and shipbuilding industries
Building the roof of sheds and factories
Increasing the strength of the roof of multi-storey halls with high weight
Construction of protective fences on bridges, highways and guide rails
Supporting structures of solar fuel power plants
Making furniture, storage and greenhouse frames
Specifications of Z profile types
In order to know profiles accurately and how to distinguish a high-quality profile from a low-quality profile, we need to know their characteristics and structural properties. Zed profiles are divided into different types based on gender and structural and appearance characteristics. The most widely used types of z profiles based on material include steel, galvanized and aluminum z profiles. But there is another type of division that is more interesting to designers and engineers, and that is the profile type in terms of appearance and cross section.
The types of z profile based on appearance are:
Plain profiled or without edge
Edged profile
Punched profile
Plain-edged airfoils are distinguished by the presence of a curved edge at the end of the wing, and punched airfoils contain punched holes on the web. In the simple z profile, the distance between the two wings of the profile, which is called the height, is denoted by the symbol H. The length of the upper and lower wings is also indicated by the symbol B, and the letter T is used to indicate the thickness of the Z profile. Now, if the profile is edged, the length of the top and bottom edges are also given in the Z profile and are indicated by C1 and C2, respectively. The standard profile dimensions for a z-edge profile are:
Upper and lower wing size (C1, C2) about 50 to 100 mm
Size of top and bottom edge (B) about 15-30mm
Height or distance between upper and lower wing (H) about 100 to 400 mm
Advantages of the Z profile
The high variety of this product in terms of material and size, as well as some specifications and structural features, has led to various applications of this profile. Among the most important advantages of Z profile, the following can be mentioned:
High strength to weight ratio
Cost savings up to 40% compared to other types of profiles
High speed installation and assembly and easy opening
Suitable for use in earthquake prone areas
Recyclable and environmentally friendly
z profile production process
Steel sheets are usually used to make Z profiles. These sheets can include all kinds of black, oiled and galvanized sheets, and accordingly, the quality, properties and price of the production profiles will be different. To produce the z profile, first the steel sheets are cut into specific dimensions and sizes. Then, these cut sheets are bent by forming machines and by applying pressure, and take the cross-section shape of Z profile. Creating these bends does not depend on the size and thickness of the primary sheet.
The created bends also include two types, the first one creates a z shape in the profile and the next bends are optional and are done on the edges of the profile. In case of creating secondary bends, the profile will be of Z profile type with edges and otherwise it will be of simple type. At the end, the factory performs the punching operation according to the customer’s request, and if the buyers want to buy a regular z profile (edged and plain), this step will not be done.
In addition to the aforementioned, all z profiles are produced in specific sizes and dimensions, and these sizes and dimensions are the same for different types of profiles, including simple, edged, and punched z profiles. Accordingly, the maximum length for a Z-profile is 16 meters, the maximum span is about 400 mm, and the maximum wing is about 100 mm.
