Types of steel structures
One of the types of steel structures is the frame structure. Steel frame is a construction technique that uses a metal framework. This skeleton consists of vertical steel columns and horizontal I-shaped beams that are made in the form of rectangular grids.
The work of these rectangular networks will be to support the floors, roof and walls, which are all connected to that skeleton. In fact, it was this steel frame technique that allowed mankind to build skyscrapers, because without this type of structure, it is very difficult to build a building of this height.
Rolled steel profile or cross sections of steel columns form the letter I shape. Two wide edges in a column are thicker and wider than the edges of a beam. The reason for this problem is the increase of compressive load tolerance in the structure. Square and tubular steel sections can also be used in the frame steel structure.
In this case, these sections are filled with concrete. The steel beams are connected to the columns using bolts and screws. Because of the increased tolerance against moment bending, the beam webs in I-beams are often wider than the column webs. Wide sheets of steel decks can also be used to cover the upper surface of the steel frame structure.
Applications of frame steel structure
This type of steel structures can be used for high-rise buildings such as multi-story buildings and skyscrapers, industrial buildings, warehouses, residential buildings, and temporary structures.
What is a shell steel structure?
One of the main types of metal structures is shell steel structure. In simple terms, a steel shell structure is a structure with a spatial volume such as a sphere or a cylinder, which is used to build silos, fluid storage tanks in factories, etc.
What is a suspended steel structure?
Suspended steel structure is another type of metal structure. Suspended steel structure refers to structures with a horizontal surface; In them, the floors are supported by high-strength parabola-shaped suspended cables. The strength of a suspended steel structure is derived from the shape of the strong parabolically curved cables.
In order to make this type of metal structures more efficient, its parabolic shape is designed so that its shape is completely close to the exact shape of the moment diagram. A warped cable is more stable under symmetrical pressure conditions because the cable has the ability to deform to adjust itself to eccentric pressure.
This feature in the cable causes secondary pressure on the horizontal surface and further deformation. The reason for the existence of parabolic curvature in the suspended steel structure is the strengthening of this structure against eccentric or lateral pressures such as pressure caused by wind or vibration and the like.
What is a truss steel structure?
Other types of metal structures are trusses. To understand the steel structure of the truss, we must first know the truss itself! A truss is a structure made up of beams and other elements to form a mesh structure. In engineering sciences, a structural truss contains components that create two forces (a two-force component is a structure in which the force enters only two points), in this type of structure, the components are placed together in such a way that the overall composition is act as a single object.
